The Richard C. Schulze Award is presented in recognition of distinguished service and commitment to AHRI and the industry’s goals and objectives. Rolph received the award from 2012 AHRI Chairman Ajita Rajendra, president and chief executive officer of A. O. Smith.
Rolph has served as the chairman of the Hydronics Section Technical Committee for more than 15 years, first as a member of the Gas Appliance Manufacturers’ Association (GAMA), then with AHRI when GAMA became part of the organization five years ago. Prior to that, he was a member of the Hydronics Institute (also now a part of AHRI) and is currently chairman of the Hydronic Boiler Compliance Committee.
The Hydronics Section Technical Committee meets several times each year and focuses on certifications, standards, and codes. The committee responds to actions on a regular basis with the U. S. Department of Energy as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, and one of Rolph’s responsibilities is to ensure the group reaches a consensus opinion before dealing with these government agencies. The committee also meets regularly to review issues that arise in regard to AHRI’s boiler certification program, and they provide feedback on new safety standards being proposed for residential and commercial equipment.
“Serving with AHRI gives me the opportunity to learn first-hand of many of the changes being considered for the industry,” said Rolph. “Being named the recipient of this year’s Richard C. Schulze Distinguished Service Award is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the efforts of the Technical Committee.” In addition to his committee chairs, Neil has participated in AHRI’s Water Heater Product Section and its Indirect-Fired Water Heater subsection. He also serves on the Certifications Programs and Policy Committee.
